Collaboration & Art

June 7 - June 20, 2009

Imagine two weeks of concentrated studio time with like-minded artists.

The Fine Arts Department of Grande Prairie Regional College in Grande Prairie will host the ninth Prairie North Creative Residency from June 7 to June 20, 2009. Grande Prairie is located 450 kilometers northwest of Edmonton in the picturesque Peace River Region of Northern Alberta.

The Prairie North Creative Residency provides participants an opportunity to network with other professional artists across the province and country. It is a chance to learn and share with peers in an intensive, open studio environment. Participating artists work within their own approaches and content, there is no formal instruction. However, available during the duration of the residency are two guest artists, who will act as facilitators, providing both formal and informal critiques.

We welcome and encourage applicants in traditional media, new media, combined visual studio disciplines, as well as other creative fields such as writing, poetry, dance and music. If you have specific needs which are not addressed on the website please contact us.

The two - week residency includes fourteen catered dinners and fourteen nights in the college student residence provided with light cooking facilities. The catered dinners provide a common gathering time for the participating artists. The evenings also offer artist's presentations, performances and open critiques.

Consider PNCR as a blank canvas. The possibilities are limitless. Within this setting, artistic careers have changed directions and new paths discovered. We provide two residency leaders, twenty artistic peers, and studio space for 14 days of inspired activity. The rest is collaboration, creativity and art!
