GPRC Campus & Residence

Fine educational, athletic and cultural opportunities, as well as landmark architecture, are all part of the contribution Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) makes to community life in Grande Prairie and the Peace River region. More than 2,400 students annually pursue university studies, career and academic upgrading programs at GPRC, and some 8,000 students register in training programs and continuing education classes each year. The College is situated on a picturesque urban lake and is adjacent to trails well-suited to walking, biking, or cross-country skiing.

Traditional Studios

The traditional Fine Arts Studios are separated from the main College and located adjacent to Parking Lot F. The studios are a short walk from the residence, which overlooks scenic Bear Creek Reservoir. The buildings share a common fenced yard with a fire pit, picnic tables, barbecues and shade trees.

Studio A has a large open space approximately 75 x 45 feet. There is also a press available for mono-prints.

Studio B has two large rooms with 16-foot ceilings and clerestory windows that allow indirect sunlight to filter into the room.

Woodshop & Welding Area

The woodshop and small welding area are attached to Studio B. Participants are welcome to use the shop facilities, but there is no technical support. It is the participant’s responsibility to be proficient and knowledgeable about the safe operation of the equipment. The hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Hand held power tools will be available at any time.

All applicants must sign an insurance safety waiver before either the studios or the shop areas can be used.

Digital Design Studios

The Digital Design Studio will be partially removed leaving a small compliment of workstations and printing facilities. The building is a five-minute walk from the traditional studios. The Department server has two 500-gigabyte hard drives; please note the amount of space you will require. There is no digital lab technician and printing costs are extra for these studios. Participants must bring their own digital still and video cameras.

Performance Art, Dance & Installation

The Black Box is a professional practice space measuring 52 x 39 feet. The cat-walk and sound booth may be available depending on the applicants skill sets and training. In the past we have accepted group proposals that included sound and lighting technicians.

The Rehearsal Hall is adjacent to the Black Box. This area would work well as a staging area for an installation in progress that does not require any wall space. The open hard wood floor area measures 52 x 30 feet.
